There are a lot of places to find information about begonias on the internet. But going to Begonia Society meetings are the best! Who better to tell you what will grown best in your garden?

So, if you are interested in meeting people in person, making new friends, seeing begonias up close, buying plants, and even getting free cuttings, we highly recommend joining us for one of our monthly meetings!

The Begonia Society of San Francisco publishes the
San Francisco Begonian, our monthly newsletter
with information about our upcoming events, meeting topics, special begonia sales and shows, photos and more.

You can view the Newsletter Archive here.

We organize the annual

There are a number of events held in and around the San Francisco Bay Area throughout the year. Here are some of the biggest and best:

  • San Francisco Spring Plant Sale Extravaganza
    - June, usually held on the first full weekend in June.

This 1 day sale began in 2013 as a small plant sale to provide the public an opportunity to see and buy a wide variety of plants. Besides Begonias, there are many other companion plants of interest to amateurs and collectors alike. You will find Begonias, Gesneriads, African Violets, Fuchsias, Geraniums, Epiphyllums, Roses, Dahlias and many more! This is a wonderful opportunity to meet with members of many other plant societies, ask questions and, of course, buy plants!

    Visit for details.

This annual one day sale is held on Saturday in the Auditorium of the SF County Fair Building, in conjunction with the San Francisco Succulent and Cactus Society's annual 2 day Spring sale held in the Gallery on Saturday and Sunday of the same weekend. The SF Succulent and Cactus Society's sale is also joined by the SF Bromeliad Society!

These sales are not to be missed!

  • Capitola Begonia Festival
    - September, held on Labor Day Weekend

This is the ONLY Begonia Festival in the United States! Held in beautiful Capitola California, which is just south of Santa Cruz. This festival began over 60 years ago when Capitola was home to most all of the many Tuberous Begonia growers and hybridizers in Central California. After al, the climate here is IDEAL! Sunday features the annual nautical parade on the Soquel River with floats decorated completely with tuberous begonia flowers! The entire weekend is filled with many family friendly events and concerts throughout labor Day Weekend.

A MUST see!   More details at

  • Sacramento Begonia Society's Annual Show & Sale
    - September, held on the first weekend after Labor Day Weekend

This 2 day show and sale is the largest Begonia show and sale in Central California!

    A MUST see!
